Huntington Safe Routes to School Huntington, Texas The City of Huntington was looking to enhance the safety of students in route to and from every school in the Huntington school district as part of TxDOT’s Safe Routes to School program. KSA Engineers, Inc. was hired to assist the City in the planning, development, design, and construction administration of this project. KSA designed approximately 2.7 miles of 5-foot wide ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps. Three pedestrian bridges over large drainage streams were constructed in city parks and rights of way to establish pedestrian routes away from vehicular traffic. Striped crosswalks and tactile warning stripes were included where sidewalks crossed streets to assure pedestrian safety.
