Rockdale Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge Processing Improvements |

The City of Rockdale owns and operates a wastewater treatment plant. After a plant expansion/upgrade in 2006, the wastewater treatment plant experienced a summer with high precipitation in 2007. During this year, the plant experienced problems with solids levels in the aeration basin due to limited capability to waste sludge. Seasonal wet weather continued to result in an inability for the drying beds to keep up with needed wasting schedules. The purpose of the two proposed sludge dewatering boxes was to add additional units to dewater and dispose of sludge. The additional dewatering boxes are used in addition to the existing drying beds. The sludge boxes can achieve 15% solids within 3 days and require no additional building to house the boxes from the elements. The cost of installation and operation is much less than that of alternative dewatering units such as belt presses or centrifuges.
The project included the addition of two (2) sludge dewatering boxes, each with a capacity of 30 cubic yards. The boxes were designed on hydraulically-driven titling stands for dumping into the sludge containment area.
KSA provided all civil, structural, and electrical engineering for the project. Funded was provided through the Texas Water Development's Clean Water State Revolving Fund. |
