Buffalo Wastewater Collection Systems Improvements
The City of Buffalo hired KSA Engineers, Inc. to assist in the design of wastewater collection systems improvements.

This project was constructed in order to reduce inflow and infiltration in the sanitary sewer system; provide a gravity sewer system to
move the wastewater from the west side of I-45 to the east side in lieu of a small lift station that was proving to be unreliable; provide
new service to approximately 35 connections; and convert several lift stations to gravity sewer in order to reduce the cost of operations
for the City and provide the City with a more reliable collection system.

In order to achieve the above goals, several things needed to happen. First, KSA designed new 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, and 15” PVC sanitary
sewer gravity pipes and associated manholes. Then, engineers designed new 4”, 6”, and 10” forcemains. The team also designed the
replacement of an existing 8” gravity line with a 10” PVC gravity line which required manhole tie-ins; conversion of eight existing lift
stations into manholes; tie-ins at the wastewater treatment plant splitter box and lift stations; and designed boring and encasement
beneath several roads, including I-45, and the construction of five new complete and operable lift stations.
