KSA Engineers' McKinney office has taken their motto “Building Stronger Communities” to heart and action. On February 19, KSA staffers were called on by the Volunteer McKinney organization to help a woman — who is diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer — clean up her property.
The City of McKinney requires that all residents in both commercial and residential zones comply with a variety of property maintenance standards which are geared toward sustaining livability, preserving property values and protecting public health and safety. Often times during their investigations, staff determines that there is an underlying issue preventing a resident from complying with local codes. Such was the case for this McKinney woman, who lacked the energy to perform heavy labor due to daily radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
For more than six hours, KSA employees Kim Webb, Mark Breese, Casey Raymond, Lori English, Scott Hoelzle, Jonathan Farmer, David Perkins, Chris Whitfield, and Steve Creamer worked through the yard as they raked, trimmed, edged, and fixed anything that needed fixing, from flower beds to fencing.
"It was a lot of work but we enjoyed the day," Creamer said. "It felt good to get out from behind our desks, work together, and help a neighbor. "
The City of McKinney and the homeowner thanked KSA Engineers for their quick response and for their dedication to assisting those in need within their community.

About Volunteer McKinney The Volunteer McKinney Center’s mission is to enhance the spirit of citizen’s responsibility and service in McKinney by facilitating volunteerism. Volunteers can improve the quality of life in our community by engaging in volunteer opportunities that are both challenging and satisfying. This can be achieved as we partner with the city, service organizations, non-profit agencies, churches, and businesses in our community to determine the needs that we face and share them with the citizens that can be part of the solution. http://www.volunteermckinney.org/
