KSA donates thousands to Texas volunteer fire departments
12.12.2011
Longview, TX — After 25 intense days of voting, results are in for KSA Engineers Inc.'s  holiday donation campaign, and five volunteer fire departments will get a little monetary help this season.

Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department, South Brazos County Fire Department, Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department, Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department and De Kalb Volunteer Fire Department will each receive a $1,000 donation from the civil engineering firm.

"Many of the departments around Texas have been stretched thin by the rash of fires this summer and fall," said Joncie Young, KSA president. "We wanted to extend a helping hand to the volunteer fire departments that have been put to the test this year."

But KSA didn't choose the five VFDs alone; the company encouraged residents across the state to visit their web site at www.ksaeng.com to cast their votes for the fire department they thought would be most deserving of a $1,000 donation.

In the end, over 24,000 votes were cast, and Muldoon VFD came out on top with 2,989 votes. Chief Johnny McCoy was ecstatic at the news.

"We e-mailed the community members and used our Facebook accounts to really put the word out about the contest," he said. "We had people voting for us from here to Alaska! It was so exciting to check the site everyday to see if we were staying on top."

Firefighter Bill Bollinger at Holly Lake VFD also used e-mails to get the word out. He said word spread like wildfire.

"We have a fantastic support group out here in our Holly Lake community," he said. "We put the word out and there was such a great response from friends and family."

When asked what he will do with the donation, Bollinger quickly responded, "That's easy! We always need new gear!"

Paula Booth, a dispatcher for the De Kalb VFD, was overjoyed to be able to tell the firefighters she works with that they would be getting a $1,000 donation from KSA.

"I updated our Facebook page twice a day, every day, throughout the entire contest," she said. "We are so excited! We have plans to put up a digital sign that will spotlight burn bans, safety information, etcetera."

"We are very pleased with the contest and all the participation from people across Texas," Young said. "The public rallied together and showed amazing support for our fire departments."
