KSA gains two more licensed engineers
02.01.2012
KSA Engineers, Inc. welcomed two more professional engineers to their ranks last month after Elliot Neph and Colden Rich successfully completed their licensing exams.

Elliot Neph, P.E. works as a Project Engineer with KSA’s  office in McKinney, Texas and has been with the company since 2007.

He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas and has lived in Texas since graduating from college.

Speaking about the exam, Neph said the test covered most of the basic tenets of civil engineering.

“They organized the material and really narrowed the scope of what was covered on the test,” he said. “I began studying about three months before the exam and really ramped up the hours as it got closer and closer. I guess I would say the test was about what I expected.  Not really any easier or harder. “

With the help of a study course, Neph passed the exam and said he is proud to be a Professional Engineer.

“I have enjoyed my time working at KSA and am grateful for the opportunity to work here.  I am very thankful for the support group around me,” Neph said. “I have learned a lot from the P.E.s I work with.  I do not think it is a stretch to say that passing the P.E. exam was made much easier by the experiences I have earned as an employee of KSA.”

Colden Rich, P.E. shares a similar appreciation for the complexity of the test and the knowledge gained from his mentors at KSA.

“This exam is a culmination of 8 years of hard work and dedication and I am very excited to have passed the exam,” Rich said. “Obtaining my license has been a goal of mine for a long time and achieving this milestone in my career feels very rewarding.  I realize that there is still a lot I have left to learn and I look forward to continuing my development as an engineer at KSA.”

Colden, originally, from Seminole, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a degree in civil engineering.  He joined KSA as a summer intern in 2006 and came on board full-time in 2007.

He spent more than 150 hours in preparation for the exam, which was more difficult than he imagined.

Rich explained the test consists of 80 questions covering topics such as water resources, geotechnical engineering, transportation, structural design, and construction management. The test is divided into two sections (breadth, which covers all topics, and depth, which focuses on one topic in detail) and participants are given up to four hours to complete each section.
