Crockett Hurricane Ike Recovery - Civic Center Shelter &
Residents in the City of Crockett will have a new place to take cover during any natural disaster now that KSA Engineers, Inc. has
designed an additional emergency shelter.

The City wanted to expand their civic center, which serves as an American Red Cross (ARC) mass shelter facility and acts as a
temporary service center for both the ARC and the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). So, they hired KSA to create
more space for evacuees.

KSA increased the center’s capacity to shelter up to 400 emergency evacuees by designing a 3,000 sf steel building adjacent to the
existing civic center.  The City purchased a 250-500 kilowatt alternating current generator through government surplus supplies which
KSA installed for use between both shelters.

The new building can be divided into two separate rooms using a curtain partition wall that will allow for training emergency
management personnel.  Each room is electrically designed and prewired for video presentations to accommodate any visual needs
for training purposes.

Army Curtis with Curtis Architecture provided the necessary architectural services for the project.
